For all us poor monoglot anglophones who have been wrestling with secondhand interpretations of the significance and detail of Schaeffer's unique contribution to music, this long awaited text sets the record straight. Now for the first time we get a sense of the complexity, expansive depth and self-critical vigour of Schaeffer's thinking. There are so many ideas in this work that will stimulate new insights for those of us who have been kept in ignorance by our lack of access to the original texts. Dack and North have done us a great service for which I am truly grateful. Their meticulous work over many years has been rewarded with the issue of this essential text for all interested in electroacoustic music and sound studies in general. We await with great expectation the completion of the translation of the Treatise on Musical Objects. Three cheers for Dack and North!
